Review & Swatches | Violet Voss x Nicol Concilio Palette

violet voss x nicol

I know you all have probably heard of Nicol Concilio! She’s an adorable New York native that has a bomb channel on YouTube. I love her videos and her accent gives me life. She recently released her palette that was created with Violet Voss Cosmetics. Now, I had high expectations for this because I have the Violet Voss x Laura Lee palette and that one is amazing.

violet voss x nicol

First off… can we talk about this packaging? I’m obsessed. This holographic goodness just makes me want to stare at it all day. Not to mention that my photos are pretty great, in my opinion. (Yes, I am patting myself on the back for these.) I just love the holographic theme that the beauty world has taken lately. (Also, she totally signed that little flyer that came with it and I kind of want to frame it. 😍)

violet voss x nicol palette inside violet voss x nicol

Looking inside the palette, you get 20 shades. They are little bigger than what I would consider “normal” size such as compared to a Mac or Makeup Geek eyeshadow. The palette retails for $45 USD and I’ll just tell you now that I believe it is 100% worth it. I know that doesn’t leave much to tell for the rest of the review but this palette is gorgeous. I’m in love. I will say, if you’re not a warm-toned lover, you won’t much like this. It has tonsss of warm shadows and few sprinkles of color within the duo-chromes (such as Palm Tree) and then that intense blue (Pingy).

Now, to what you guys really want, the swatches!

Row 1 (top to bottom, corresponding from left to right of the palette): NYC, Zo-Zo, Bruh, Pizza, Mars

Row 2: Daisy, Hangry, Blou, Hey Girl, Chawwcolate

Row 3: Glorious, Nicol, Sagittarius, GiGi, Palm Tree

Row 4: L.A., Victoria, Boop-Bop, Pingy, Retrograde

Overall, I rate this palette a 10/10! I love the shades, the pigment is unreal, and they are super creamy. I can’t wait to dig into this more. If you guys want to see any looks with specific shades, let me know in the comments.

August 2017 Blogging + Personal Goals

august goals

August is when my life really gets crazy so these goals are something I definitely need to focus in on and work towards. I start student teaching this month, I will be working still, and I want to make sure that I stay on top of my blogging schedule. That means that I have to plan, plan, plan! I have some big things in mind in my blogging life as well as my personal life.

august goals

Blogging Goals

  1. Reach 1,400 followers on Twitter. I am currently sitting just below 1,300 so I really want to try to push to make it to that 1,400 mark. My end-of-the-year goal is to make it to 2,000 but I don’t want to push myself too far and then get disappointed when it doesn’t happen so this is just a short term goal to make it to that.
  2. Continue blogging every other day. I am currently on a schedule where I blog every other day and this has been working out amazingly for me. I constantly have new content up and I am able to keep coming up with things because I have a break every other day.
  3. Reach 800 followers on Instagram. Instagram is something I just recently started trying to get more active on so I don’t want to push myself too far but I didn’t think I’d get to 700 so fast from where I was so I am going to shoot for 800 and hope for the best!
  4. Build @bliss_bloggers Twitter account. I just recently start a Twitter chat and retweet account for all us bloggers out there (if you’re not following, you should go do that here!). It’s a fun way to connect with bloggers, get your posts promoted for free, and just have fun. I plan to expand it into a group Pinterest board and a Facebook group soon so stay tuned.

Personal Goals

  1. Dive head first into student teaching. I start on August 11th and I am sooo excited but also extremely nervous. I really just want to put my all into this because this is how I am going to get the experience I need to get my own teaching job after I graduate in December. Wish me luck!
  2. Finish at least one book. I used to read nonstop and now I feel like I never even crack open a book. I just updated my Kindle not long ago and I have tons of physical copies of books so I just need to finally get back into my old habits and read, read, read!
  3. Organize my apartment. My home is still a bit of a mess from moving in as I’ve still been working nonstop since that happened. I really want to finally get all my decorations and organization done this month so I can feel 100% comfortable every time I come home. I’m slowly working towards it but it’s a work in progress.
  4. Get back into actively planning every day. Planning is something I love to do and I love making my planner look adorable on top of that. I have all the supplies I need and, with a busier schedule coming, I should be able to easily get back into it. I just hate when I forget about it and don’t look at it for a day because it throws me off completely.

That’s it for my goals for the month of August! I hope you guys enjoyed reading them and I really hope I can make it through without dying of exhaustion! It’s going to be a busy month but I got this and I know I’ll make it the best one yet in 2017.

My Dream Vanity ft. Arhaus

my dream vanity

Calling all beauty and makeup lovers… I know you have thought about what your dream vanity would look like! If you haven’t, I sure have for the both of us. Ever since I started truly getting into the world of makeup, I have had a “makeshift” vanity made from my small circle mirror and a desk that was clearly meant for a desktop computer. It’s not the most practical but it works. That being said, I have always lusted for the perfect vanity to sit down at, take photos, and just play with my collection.

my dream vanity

Today, I am bringing you the design for my dream vanity. This is what I hope will some day grace the presence of my tiny one-bedroom apartment (if my dog doesn’t turn into a monster truck and start a demo-derby in my bedroom… like he does almost every day).

After scouring Arhaus’s website and Pinterest, I think I am set on my perfect vanity and definitely want to start saving up to build this masterpiece.

For my lighting, I definitely would love to have the vanity light bulbs (like the pin below) around the mirror but I don’t know if that means I have to have a specific mirror or not. If I don’t have to, then I’m eyeballing Genevieve Oval Mirror.

(c) Impressions Vanity Co.
(c) Arhaus

As far as lighting for decor/accents, I am obsessed with this Flower Pendant light. Ideally, I would love to have two or three hanging up above my vanity area where they would be useful and attractive to the eye. This is just one of many gorgeous lighting options that Arhaus has to offer.

(c) Arhaus

Of course, I’m also obsessed with the shelving units that are in that vanity above. I looked them up and they are actually called Lack shelves and they would be ideal to go on either side of my vanity set-up for easy access to things I use a lot as well as adding some decor to the shelves at the very top and bottom, as those wouldn’t be as practical to use while sitting at the vanity.

Speaking of sitting, I honestly fell in love with this chair when looking at the selection they had on Arhaus. It is perfect off-white/gray combination that I feel like would look good with the rest of the pieces I have picked out.

(c) Arhaus

As far as the actual desk and further storage on the desk, I definitely want something built upon a set of two Alex drawers. Eventually, I think I’d want to get the Alex nine drawers but that would be for additional storage while these would be the foundation of the desk. All I’d have to add is the base on top to make the desk top (like the photo below).

(c) voceprecisadecor.com.br

On top of the desk, I really want to get some of the acrylic containers/drawers for the things that I use every day. Plus, this would make it where I could actually display some of my makeup instead of just storing it. I love the set-up on the desk in the picture below but I probably would want a bit more space to work on rather than covered with the storage.

(c) websta.stfi.re

And that’s it, guys! Can you picture it in your head? I seriously want drooling over the image I have of this set-up. I have no idea where I would fit it in my apartment but, hopefully, by the time I finally get the money for this, I’ll be in a bigger place!

What does your dream vanity look like? Tell me in the comments below!

Blogger Spotlight | Cairon at Travel Bear

cairon travel bear

Another Blogger Spotlight for you guys! This babe is all about travel. Cairon is a 25-year-old blogger from Northumberland, England. Today’s interview is going to focus a lot on the travel and mental health aspects of her blog as that is what she emphasized in our personal conversation! Below is the interview I had with Cairon as well as her links to her social media and her blog.

cairon travel bear

Q1: What inspired you to travel to Australia?

I was inspired to go travelling to Australia because of a family holiday to Florida in April. The holiday came during the height of my mental break down and it wasn’t until I was in Florida that I started to feel better and like there was something worth living for. I decided once I got home from this holiday that I needed to pursue my passion for travel & I wanted to go somewhere in the sunshine…So I chose Australia. Then once I started to research it and saw how much there was to do there I couldn’t not book it!!

Q2: As you mentioned that you are using your blog as a way to write about your mental health issues, what kinds do you struggle with specifically?

I struggle with anxiety & depression quite badly. Earliest this year I was very ill, I couldn’t leave the house, go to work, talk to friends. I felt so so isolated. But with the help of one amazing friend in particular I started to open up about the dangerous thoughts I was having and got the help I needed to start to feel better. Then I went on my holiday & started to chase my dreams.

Q3: Do you think that you will eventually dive into providing advice to those who are thinking of traveling?

I would love to help people live their dreams of travel! Part of my blog now is all the details of all the preparation going into my trip so that if anyone is considering it they can look at all the steps they need to do to complete it! Obviously once i’m out there in Hong Kong & Australia i’ll be able to give more first hand information about my experience which I hope will be helpful!

Q4: What is one piece of advice you would give an aspiring blogger?

I would say…write for you! Don’t worry about what anyone else thinks or wants to see. When you’re starting write about things YOU care about and your passions. This will shine through to people who share the same interests and your following will grow naturally! I tried to start my blog & only focus on travel – but after a week or so I realised I didn’t feel like I was being true to myself and it has slowly developed into the most intimate and honest place in my life/ Because of this I received such amazing feedback from people saying I’ve helped them with things too. It feels amazing!

Q5: Do you think that mental health should be made more of a priority in day-to-day life? If so, why? If not, why not?

I think mental health should be a priority for each and every person! Yes, not everyone wil get a mental illness, but EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN THE WORLD has mental health. It’s essential to know how to maintain and care for this, know what triggers your anxieties or stress. We’re all human, we’re all affected by things on occassion. We need to normalise mental health completely. It is just as essential as physical health and two are completely interlinked! It should be taught to us from a young age in schools and then carried through with us into adulthood and the workplace. Mental health is crucial to our producitvity and happiness in every aspect of life; friendships, relationships, work, study, family. To me it is just completely essential and needs to be spoken about so much in society. That’s why I’m so proud of what I’ve achieved with my little blog so far and hope to take it so much further in the future!

BTS Series | Back-to-School Tips

back to school tips

Everyone has tips that they think of whenever you think of back-to-school. This is, personally, my favorite time of the year. All the school supplies, kids getting back to learning, and, let’s be real, I’m just a huge nerd. Being the nerdy teacher’s pet that I am, I’m going to give you some tips for you to take while going into the new year, semester, or whatever you call it in your neck of the woods!

back to school tips

  1. Get a planner. I cannot tell you how many times having a planner has saved my butt whenever I have been stressed to the max during a hard semester. I have to write everything down. It’s also a good place to just have your life fully planned out and ready to tackle each time you open it.
  2. Set-up your sleep schedule. Let’s face it, you’re going to be busy during school. Whether it is cramming for exams or just going to class, you need energy. You have to sleep and you can’t just live on coffee and Redbull (unfortunately). Make sure you set-up your sleeping schedule so you have the amount that you need to succeed each day.
  3. Pace yourself. Don’t go too hard in the paint and overwhelm yourself with things to do every single day. I do this a lot and almost always end up regretting it. We all need “self-care” days and you need to make sure that you have the time to fit those into your busy schedule.
  4. Keep up with your schoolwork. This seems obvious but we all can let the hussle and bussle of life take over and forget that we are actually in school to learn. Whether you’re in high school or a senior in college, you have to make sure that your studies are your number one priority. This is your future!
  5. Plan ahead. This is in all things. Whether you’re planning next week’s schedule, your workout routine, or what you are wearing for class the next day, plan it! This helps you be less stressed and keeps things from being forgotten because you were trying too hard to do it all.
  6. Keep on smiling! There may be tough times but it is nothing that you can’t combat with a little positivity and a smile. You can make it through anything that life throws at you. You are amazing, beautiful, and perfect for the job that is life. Keep on keepin’ on, baby doll!

First Impressions | XO Beauty… Purchase or Pass?

in packaging xo beauty

XO Beauty is a cosmetic line created by Shannon of Shannnxo on YouTube. I am personally a huge fan of her channel and watch her videos all the time. I especially love the new cocktail series she has going on right now. She has awesome ideas and is super creative. I knew of her brand before because she had previously launched brushes and lashes, which was not something that I had an interest in purchasing. I did, however, get super excited when she announced liquid and tube lipsticks and just shortly after she launched two highlighters.

Being the makeup addict that I am, I purchased both highlighters and one of each of the lipsticks as there weren’t many shades that appealed to me personally from her initial launches in the lip products. After getting these in the mail, I immediately did product shots and swatches for you guys.

in packaging xo beauty

Right off the bat, I was obsessed with the uni-cartons and the packaging overall. It is super girly and cute and just overall appealing to me personally. I love her logo and the accents of pink of the packaging. The chrome packaging for the actual product is just as gorgeous and gives me major simplistic vibes, which I adore. I love that you can see the liquid lipstick shade in the container without having to open it up.

out of carton xo beauty

The overall feel of the brand from this perspective is very beautiful and I definitely am drawn to it. If I saw this in store, I would probably go over and swatch it immediately. This is something that is likely a goal for the brand and Shannon as a brand owner.

Now, for the highlighters, the product itself was extremely creamy and blendable. I loved how soft the powders felt to the touch and they were gorgeous shades. However, as a blinding highlight addict, these just weren’t my cup of tea. I thought they seemed to be much more blinding in her video that she released using these but they are very subtle in person. I still find them to be gorgeous and would be awesome for someone wanting a more natural highlight.

Above are swatches of the two shades on my arm. As you can see, they are almost identical to my skin tone so they did not to much “highlighting” for me personally. However, I am quite pale so this is expected. The shades from top to bottom are Aurora and Lucent.

Now for the lipsticks… I will start off by saying that I was not too excited for these just because of the lack of shades that appealed to me. Now, that is a personal issue and does not affect the product itself. Immediately, the scent of these was amazing. I love the warm, almost vanilla smell they have but it also does not linger so it would not likely cause you to get a headache if you are sensitive to this sort of thing.

lip swatches xo beauty

Above are, from top to bottom, the liquid lipstick in the shade Impavid and the tube lipstick in the shade Wabi-Sabi, which is a matte formula.

For the liquid lipstick, I really loved how creamy and smooth they applied. They are not transfer-proof and they did not seem to dry down to a completely matte formula so I would describe them as similar to the Ultra Satin Lips by ColourPop Cosmetics. This particular color was a little patchy but still came off beautifully once I manipulated it a bit. However, for the price point ($18.92 USD), I feel like they should have been easier to work with. A lip liner may help the issues I had but I don’t feel like liquid lipsticks should need a liner, personally, as I have never used them with a liner before.

For the tube lipstick, I was really excited because I feel like it swatched pretty well. I do not normally have a ton of luck with tube lipsticks so I was really hopeful but the product did not apply well to the lips by any means. I did not use a liner, which as I said about the liquid lipstick, may have helped, but it still was extremely patchy and no matter how I tried to manipulate it, it did not want to become even.

Overall, I think the highlighters were gorgeous but just not for me and I would love to get more of the liquid lipsticks if they had a better variety of their shades. Sadly, I will have to pass on any more of the tube lipsticks because the application was just too patchy and chunky for me – to be honest, I feel like the Maybelline matte lipsticks are better and way less expensive.

Overall: 6/10
Liquid Lipsticks: 8/10
Tube Lipsticks: 3/10
Highlighters: 9/10
Worth the Price?: 6/10

Blogger Spotlight | April at Travelling Wanderer

april travelling wanderer

Bringing back my Blogger Spotlight series and I am so excited to be doing so! The first blogger I am featuring is this sweetheart, April. She has been a doll and I have enjoyed getting to know her on Twitter (@travellinwander) and love how raw she is on her blog. Below is the interview I had with April as well as her links to her social media and her blog.

april travelling wanderer

Q1: As you stated in our conversation, you changed your blog’s name from “Hopeless Wanderer” to “Travelling Wanderer”. Is there a particular reason or did you feel this was more suited to your style?

“Hopeless Wanderer” originated from the Mumford Sons song which I felt personally connected to. Specifically, the lyric “I will learn, I will learn to love the skies I’m under.” After I started to focus more on my blog and what I wanted to write about, I realized that when you travel the feeling of hopelessness rarely occurs. Through travelling and broadening my world of perspective, I realize that I am far from hopeless which sparked the name change. I travel, and I am a wanderer person driven by a taste for discovery, newness and invention, a person who sees adventure in the every day, in every moment.

Q2: What do you think the most exciting part of traveling is?

I love that travel awakens your senses, and makes your life rich with experiences. The world is so busy, that some people forget to take time away to explore new areas. The exciting part about travelling is that you embrace the unknown, and muster up the courage to be in an area unfamiliar to explore. You gain a broad perspective of the world outside of your own, and that can plant seeds to help your own personal growth. Travelling is about the beautiful places to you go, meeting new people, and gaining riches that will last a lifetime.

Q3: What are the top 5 places you want to travel to?

One of the top places that I want to go to is Alaska, ever since I was little. I dream of one day being able to stargaze in the forests, and capture astrophotography of the stars and northern lights being as one. Secondly, I would love to travel to Thailand to be embraced in culture, the food, ride an elephant, and to wander the beautiful beaches. Third, I want to go to Iceland to encapture all the scenery, and go to the Blue Lagoon. Fourth, I want to go to Oregon (which I will moving there in the upcoming months) as I am a sucker for the oregon forests and coastline that hugs the entire state. Fifth, I want to go to Greece for the intrigueing culture and to see the different towns. This travel list continues…

Q4: Do you have any tips for newbies who want to dive into the world of blogging?

In the world of blogging I am still considered a newbie, however, if I was to give one piece of advice I would say to just be yourself. There is a whole blogging world out there, find it and connect, but stay true to what your original creation is and continue to be uniquely different. Follow your love and always remember the reason why you started it, to use your passion to inspire yourself and others.

Q5: To you, what does the quote “Not all those who wander are lost,” mean?

A person who wanders does not need to have a destination or a goal, and that would not deem them as lost. These wanderers have a deep curiousity and need to explore without a compass or a map. It is about where that journey takes you, it is not about the destination or where you plan to go. Some wanderers, are lost and hopeless because they have not realized the value of the journey, only focusing on the destination. It is about learning to love the sky you are under, and following the wind without hesitation on the journey that you were meant for.

BTS Series | Backpack Essentials

backpack essentials

Back to school is around the corner and you will be living out of your backpack soon enough. Knowing that, there are some things that everyone should have in their backpack (yes, even you men out there!) whenever you are walking around campus all day. Now, if where you live is like Kentucky right now, it is blazing hot so you’ll need to keep a couple things specific to your own location if those do not apply to you but I am going to share some basics that I always felt necessary when starting up a new semester.

backpack essentials

#1 Notebook

I always kept a five-subject notebook for my courses and just had all my notes in one place. Some people prefer one notebook for each course or using a binder with loose leaf paper. Whatever works best for your personal taste should be just fine but just make sure you have something to take notes, make reminders, and just start off the semester on a good note.

#2 Writing Utensils

Being a college student, it doesn’t much matter what your preference is for this but I usually stick to mechanical pencils and Papermate Flair pens or gel pens. Those are my personal favorites for notes and my planner so I always have them on hand. Pens, pencils, markers, or whatever you want to write with should be perfectly fine but I always suggest having some type of pencil at the very least.

#3 Planner

I am a planning gal. I write down everything including meetings, classes, important dates, work schedule, reminders, etc. I need to have all these things written down somewhere or documented some how or I will forget about them. This is why a planner is essential to my backpack during classes. If you work better out of technology then you may consider carrying your phone (which you probably already do) or a tablet/computer to help you keep things “written” down.

#4 Water Bottle

I normally either reuse water bottles or get one that I can just fill up whenever (but I always seem to lose these, unfortunately). I always suggest water because you are going to be going nonstop most days and will need to stay hydrated to keep up with class and all the walking to different buildings, especially if your college’s town is as hot as mine is right now).

#5 Snacks

I have low blood sugar so having granola bars, mints, gum, etc. is engrained in my head. I think you should always carry light snacks just in case you don’t have time to run through a drive-thru or make it to lunch at the dining hall. You need to stay energized and food does that!

#6 Highlighters

I am a firm believer in highlighting in my notes, textbooks, planner, etc. I always like to have them with me, even if I barely use them for a certain class. It’s something that I always want to grab for and regret not having when they aren’t in my bag.

#7 Sticky Notes

Or notecards. Whatever works best for you. I prefer sticky notes because I put them in my notebooks or planner have the time and that way they don’t fall out and I have less of a chance of losing them. I use these for to-do lists, notes on assignments, important information, etc. They’re handy and easy to pack!

#8 Headphones/Charger

Running around all the time can be boring and that can cause the usage of technology to be a lifesaver… unfortunately it does not save your battery. Having headphones will give you something to do using the off times but I’d make sure you always have a backup phone charger in your bag for emergencies. Additionally, if you prefer to just bring a laptop, this might help save your phone from the brunt of the battery loss!

Those are all the things I suggest having in your backpack going into the new semester. Obviously, things change depending on where you go to school, what you need in your courses, and just you as a person but these are things that I generally see myself and my friends having whenever we are starting off. Let me know your must-haves in the comments!
