HONEST Review & Swatches | Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Palette

abh subculture palette

There’s been quite a bit of controversy over this palette and, after testing it out myself, I’m a little confused. On the blog today, we’re going to be swatching and reviewing the new Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture eyeshadow palette. First off, I never really follow the “trends” when it comes to opinions unless it is that of a beauty guru that has similar makeup wants, skin type, etc. to myself and is one that I trust. So, when Laura Lee gave some sketch comments on this palette, I was weary… but even she, as well as Manny MUA, stated that this palette is pig-men-ted. That’s a sell for me so I immediately went and purchased it from Sephora.

abh subculture palette inside subculture

When I came home to this palette on my doorstep, I went inside and immediately swatched it. First off, I totally see the fallout aspect that people are getting all bent out of shape about. It does have fallout but… it’s not as bad, in my opinion, as everyone is making it out to be. Granted, I watched the videos above and it looks pretty bad but I did finger swatches (which, yes, I realize will have different results) and I really dig into the colors whenever I do this. Even digging in, I did not get as much fallout as I thought I would after watching the above videos. I don’t know if they stepped up the formula a bit after seeing all the negative comments/reviews regarding the palette and they are sending out improved versions, but that’s the only explanation that I have for this? I honestly think this is a beautiful palette. I’m obsessed with the unique color scheme and these shades are so pigmented, it’s insane.

fallout fallout 2 fallout 3

Now that we’ve touched on the tea, let’s get into the swatches of this bad boy.

top row subculture

Top Row (top to bottom, left to right in palette): Cube, Dawn, Destiny, Adorn, All Star, Mercury, and Axis

bottom row subculture

Bottom Row (same order as above): Roxy, Electric, Fudge, New Wave, Untamed, Edge, and Rowdy

And that’s my review of this palette! I would definitely get this if you haven’t yet. Fallout is not something that makes me say no to a palette and it normally just means that there is a lot of pigment in the formula, which you can clearly see is true for this one.

Review & Swatches | Karrueche x ColourPop She Palette

she palette

Karrueche and ColourPop are back at it again! They have released another collaboration collection that featured several pieces, including this gorgeous palette, the She palette. This is part of the Fem Rosa collection which included three lippies, a face palette, and this eyeshadow palette.

she palette

Now, ColourPop is known for their Super Shock Shadows that come in special packaging so they do not dry out, but awhile back they released pressed eyeshadows! This palette is in that form and, let me tell you, their pressed shadows are just as amazing as their SSS.

inside she palette

This palette just screams Valentine’s Day to me. I can’t wait to break it out for some feminine looks during that time of the year. In the palette, you get 12 eyeshadows and it retails for $16.00 USD. At about $1.33 per shadow, there is no beating this quality.

top row she

This row, the top one, features three metallic shades and the one and only satin in the palette. The swatches top to bottom align with the palette from left to right: Ladylike, Babe, Dainty, and Chick. These are the much more light and soft colors if you want a very feminine look without going too dark or sultry.

middle row she

The second row features all metallic shades and it gets into more of the dark colors that I am drawn to. From top to bottom, we have Mademoiselle, Gal, Empress, and Filly.

bottom row she

The third and final row features all matte shades to help with blending and making that smokey or seamless look with the previous shadows. I have successfully created an entire look with this palette so it is definitely possible with the shades provided. This row, from top to bottom, is Dear, Missy, Damsel, and Duchess.

The pigment in these shadows is unreal and you can’t beat with a stick for that price. I highly recommend this palette to those who love the reddish, pink, and warmer shades. It is currently out of stock but be sure you get your hands on it once it comes back!

Review & Swatches | Tarte Make Believe in Yourself Palette

tarte make believe in yourself palette

Tarte has some of my favorite products, such as their Shape Tape concealer, and their eyeshadows are no different. They have one of the best matte eyeshadow formulas out there and this palette, featuring all shimmer shades except ONE, is just as wonderful as their signature matte shades.

tarte make believe in yourself paletteinside tarte make believe in yourself palette

First off, I don’t know why, but I love the round palettes that Tarte has been releasing. They look so cute! The only sucky thing is that it is so hard to get photos of reflective packaging because you can always see my phone in the reflection. ? I made it work, though! This is what the inside of the palette looks like.

inside tarte make believe in yourself

You get a total of 10 eyeshadow shades, all shimmer (or really metallic) and one matte shade that is perfect for your transition shade. You also get a cheek shade for a highlight, but I think it could easily be used as an eyeshadow as well and it’s equally as gorgeous.

Overall, I am super impressed with these shades. They are so pigmented and come off amazingly metallic when swatches. They apply just as amazing on the eyes as well. Of course, I didn’t expect much less from Tarte as they are amazing with their quality 99.9% of the time. Let me know if you guys want to see any looks with these shades!

Review & Swatches: NEW Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powders

wet n wild highlighters

Wet N Wild has been around for as long as I can remember but they have really stepped up their game lately. I have fallen in love with many of their products. Something they released recently is four new shades of their MegaGlo Highlighting Powders. These are not new but these shades are!

wet n wild highlighters

As soon as I saw them on sale, I immediately ordered them. I mean, for only $4.99 USD each, you can’t beat this quality. I will gladly pay $20+ for a good quality highlighter but when you can get them for that price, you just can’t say no!

inside wet n wild highlighters

These highlighters are creamy to the touch, they blend out amazingly, and they have a variety of colors to them. The four new shades are Royal Calyx (a violet purple), Golden Flower Crown (a true gold), Botanic Dream (a rose gold), and Blossom Glow (a light champagne gold).

From top to bottom: Royal Calyx, Flower Crown, Blossom Glow, Botanic Dream

These highlighters are definitely improved by me! I don’t know how often I’ll wear a purple highlight but I know which one I’ll grab for whenever I do (maybe a Halloween tutorial…?). I can’t wait to use these more!

Review & Swatches | Violet Voss x Nicol Concilio Palette

violet voss x nicol

I know you all have probably heard of Nicol Concilio! She’s an adorable New York native that has a bomb channel on YouTube. I love her videos and her accent gives me life. She recently released her palette that was created with Violet Voss Cosmetics. Now, I had high expectations for this because I have the Violet Voss x Laura Lee palette and that one is amazing.

violet voss x nicol

First off… can we talk about this packaging? I’m obsessed. This holographic goodness just makes me want to stare at it all day. Not to mention that my photos are pretty great, in my opinion. (Yes, I am patting myself on the back for these.) I just love the holographic theme that the beauty world has taken lately. (Also, she totally signed that little flyer that came with it and I kind of want to frame it. ?)

violet voss x nicol palette inside violet voss x nicol

Looking inside the palette, you get 20 shades. They are little bigger than what I would consider “normal” size such as compared to a Mac or Makeup Geek eyeshadow. The palette retails for $45 USD and I’ll just tell you now that I believe it is 100% worth it. I know that doesn’t leave much to tell for the rest of the review but this palette is gorgeous. I’m in love. I will say, if you’re not a warm-toned lover, you won’t much like this. It has tonsss of warm shadows and few sprinkles of color within the duo-chromes (such as Palm Tree) and then that intense blue (Pingy).

Now, to what you guys really want, the swatches!

Row 1 (top to bottom, corresponding from left to right of the palette): NYC, Zo-Zo, Bruh, Pizza, Mars

Row 2: Daisy, Hangry, Blou, Hey Girl, Chawwcolate

Row 3: Glorious, Nicol, Sagittarius, GiGi, Palm Tree

Row 4: L.A., Victoria, Boop-Bop, Pingy, Retrograde

Overall, I rate this palette a 10/10! I love the shades, the pigment is unreal, and they are super creamy. I can’t wait to dig into this more. If you guys want to see any looks with specific shades, let me know in the comments.

First Impressions | XO Beauty… Purchase or Pass?

in packaging xo beauty

XO Beauty is a cosmetic line created by Shannon of Shannnxo on YouTube. I am personally a huge fan of her channel and watch her videos all the time. I especially love the new cocktail series she has going on right now. She has awesome ideas and is super creative. I knew of her brand before because she had previously launched brushes and lashes, which was not something that I had an interest in purchasing. I did, however, get super excited when she announced liquid and tube lipsticks and just shortly after she launched two highlighters.

Being the makeup addict that I am, I purchased both highlighters and one of each of the lipsticks as there weren’t many shades that appealed to me personally from her initial launches in the lip products. After getting these in the mail, I immediately did product shots and swatches for you guys.

in packaging xo beauty

Right off the bat, I was obsessed with the uni-cartons and the packaging overall. It is super girly and cute and just overall appealing to me personally. I love her logo and the accents of pink of the packaging. The chrome packaging for the actual product is just as gorgeous and gives me major simplistic vibes, which I adore. I love that you can see the liquid lipstick shade in the container without having to open it up.

out of carton xo beauty

The overall feel of the brand from this perspective is very beautiful and I definitely am drawn to it. If I saw this in store, I would probably go over and swatch it immediately. This is something that is likely a goal for the brand and Shannon as a brand owner.

Now, for the highlighters, the product itself was extremely creamy and blendable. I loved how soft the powders felt to the touch and they were gorgeous shades. However, as a blinding highlight addict, these just weren’t my cup of tea. I thought they seemed to be much more blinding in her video that she released using these but they are very subtle in person. I still find them to be gorgeous and would be awesome for someone wanting a more natural highlight.

Above are swatches of the two shades on my arm. As you can see, they are almost identical to my skin tone so they did not to much “highlighting” for me personally. However, I am quite pale so this is expected. The shades from top to bottom are Aurora and Lucent.

Now for the lipsticks… I will start off by saying that I was not too excited for these just because of the lack of shades that appealed to me. Now, that is a personal issue and does not affect the product itself. Immediately, the scent of these was amazing. I love the warm, almost vanilla smell they have but it also does not linger so it would not likely cause you to get a headache if you are sensitive to this sort of thing.

lip swatches xo beauty

Above are, from top to bottom, the liquid lipstick in the shade Impavid and the tube lipstick in the shade Wabi-Sabi, which is a matte formula.

For the liquid lipstick, I really loved how creamy and smooth they applied. They are not transfer-proof and they did not seem to dry down to a completely matte formula so I would describe them as similar to the Ultra Satin Lips by ColourPop Cosmetics. This particular color was a little patchy but still came off beautifully once I manipulated it a bit. However, for the price point ($18.92 USD), I feel like they should have been easier to work with. A lip liner may help the issues I had but I don’t feel like liquid lipsticks should need a liner, personally, as I have never used them with a liner before.

For the tube lipstick, I was really excited because I feel like it swatched pretty well. I do not normally have a ton of luck with tube lipsticks so I was really hopeful but the product did not apply well to the lips by any means. I did not use a liner, which as I said about the liquid lipstick, may have helped, but it still was extremely patchy and no matter how I tried to manipulate it, it did not want to become even.

Overall, I think the highlighters were gorgeous but just not for me and I would love to get more of the liquid lipsticks if they had a better variety of their shades. Sadly, I will have to pass on any more of the tube lipsticks because the application was just too patchy and chunky for me – to be honest, I feel like the Maybelline matte lipsticks are better and way less expensive.

Overall: 6/10
Liquid Lipsticks: 8/10
Tube Lipsticks: 3/10
Highlighters: 9/10
Worth the Price?: 6/10

Review & Swatches: Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette

naked heat palette

Urban Decay is back at it again with a new addition to their Naked series. This time it is the Naked Heat palette! I was so excited to hear about a new Naked palette as the quality of them are always phenomenal and I’m a sucker for neutrals of any sort, shade, etc. I love that they are going outside of the “normal” now with the Smoky and Heat palettes. Some people don’t think that they qualify under the “Naked” status but I still think that the idea is underneath that.

naked heat palette

Right off the bat, I’m obsessed with the packaging. It’s the same as the Naked Smoky where it is a plastic type deal with a nice design that catches the eye and magnetic closure. It has the mirror inside and it comes with a total of 12 shades as well as a dual-ended brush. Normally I’m not all for brushes that come with palettes but UD’s are usually good quality and this one is no exception, though I wish it wasn’t dual-ended.

inside naked heat

I definitely think this palette could be used for a variety of different looks whether it’s something cranberry and fall or more orange and summer. There is a good balance of shimmers and mattes in my opinion. Ounce has some shimmer to it but not a lot so I think it would be great for inner corners or a browbone highlight. There is a total of 7 mattes and four shimmers/one satin. Now let’s get into the swatches.

top swatches naked heat

From top to bottom, left to right: (row one) Ounce, Chaser, Sauced, and Low Blow – (row two) Lumbre, He Devil, Dirty Talk, and Scorched

bottom swatches naked heat

Last row, left to right: Cayenne, En Fuego, Ashes, Ember

Overall, as always, I am super impressive with Urban Decay’s new addition. They swatch beautifully and are super creamy to the touch. I loved playing with these and I can’t wait to see all the different looks I can come up with. It’ll probably be another go-to for me during the fall, just like the past Naked palettes have been.

Review & Swatches: Morphe x Jaclyn Hill Palette

jaclyn hill palette cover

First off, I cannot believe I am actually getting to write this blog post. If you follow me on Snapchat (which you totally should – UN: kimberlyygracee), then you know that I was very impatient with this palette release. I was already on the sight and ready to get it then the site crashed for a minute. After the initial issues, I was able to get it and finally get all of the pages to load in order to put my order in! Unfortunately, it is now sold out but I hear it is coming back this month.

Morphe x Jaclyn Hill: The Jaclyn Hill Palette

jaclyn hill palette cover

As you can tell, even my kitty approves of this gorgeous simplistic packaging. He would not get out of this photo, matter of fact. Off the bat, I am obsessed with the metallic font that they did of her signature. Not only is the outside gorgeous, but the inside has a super sweet message that Jaclyn wrote, thanking her subscribers.

jaclyn hill palette inside cover

I love how genuine and sweet Jaclyn has always been. After just one day of watching her on YouTube, I was in love. She cracks me up and she is truly talented. Of course, once seeing all the hype on this release, I had to get my hands on it. Let me tell you… this palette is worth the hype.

jaclyn hill palette

It is beyond beautiful and just looking at the shades makes me fall in love immediately. I am all about the mix of colors and the amount of looks that just automatically pop into my head when I look at this. It is so amazing that she was able to create something so versatile but yet so her! Even though you can probably tell my opinion already, I’ll let you be the judge – let’s do some swatches!

first row jaclyn hill palette

The shades coincide where the palette from left to right are the swatches from top to bottom. Above we have Enlight, Beam, Silk Crème, M.F.E.O., Faint, Sissy, and Little Lady. This row just screams girly to me. I could see many natural and feminine looks that would be great for weddings and other special occasions.

second row jaclyn hill palette

The next room just screams fall. The shades are Creamsicle, Butter, Pooter, Pukey, Hunts, Firework, and Queen. I love the pops of color that could easily brighten up the eyes and take something smoky a little further.

third row jaclyn hill palette

Now this is my idea of fall in a row of shadows. I live for these cranberry, maroon shades. You could make a killer smoky eye with this but you could also make it super metallic with those top two. The shades are Obsessed, S.B.N., Hillster, Roxanne, Jacz, Buns, and Cranapple.

fourth row jaclyn hill palette

Now this row gets into a couple fun shades as well as the brownish colors. I’m obsessed with that purple. It calls to me, if you couldn’t tell from my Mermaid Vibes makeup look. The shades are Royalty, Twerk, Hustle, Meeks, 24/7, and Chip.

fifth row jaclyn hill palette

Then last, but certainly not least, the final row. This features a couple gorgeous blues that I think could give an epic out-of-the-box look. The greens and dark purple combined could even bring that all to a dark mermaid look (hint for a new look I’m going for…?). The shades are Pool Party, Jada, Diva, Enchanted, Central Park, Soda Pop, and Abyss.

And that is the entire palette. I can’t believe that this is finally out and I got my hands on it. I’m obsessed with it and can’t wait to try out tons of looks throughout the year, which I plan to share with you, of course.

Review & Swatches: The Magic by Juvia’s

the magic by juvia's

Juvia’s Place is an amazing brand that I just recently discovered a few months ago. Their shadows are insanely pigmented and their pans are huge! The awesome part is… they are also extremely affordable! This is a newer, though pretty sure they’ve already got another out, release called The Magic.

the magic by juvia'sinside palette

The palette features a nice combination of warm and cool toned shadows, which I love! I also love that there are a lot of shimmers because those are my fav. Mattes are great for the blending but shimmers make my life, plus they have plenty of mattes for the blending needed. Now, let’s get into some swatches!

row 1

Row 1 (from left to right): Nubia, Zakiya, Osun, Kesi

row 2

Row 2 (from left to right): Zuba, Nana, Boronu, Kogi

row 3

Row 3 (from left to right): Faso, Aja, Vai, Yemoja

row 4

Row 4 (from left to right): Ife, Yara, Buzo, Yejide

After using these shadows, I can confirm that their quality is just as perfect as their previous palettes. Forever obsessed with Juvia’s quality and overall commitment to providing affordable cosmetics! Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Review & Swatches: Jouer Skinny Dip Collection + More

skinny dip palette

Along with the many other cosmetics that I have ordered this month (RIP my bank account), I got the new Skinny Dip collection from Jouer Cosmetics. I was super excited because I had never tried their eyeshadows or liquid lipsticks before. I have had their highlighters and they are to die for. I got two new ones of those (although that was a lot of disappointment, we’ll get to that later). I figured since this is my first go at Jouer’s other products, I’d do a little swatch fest and review for you all who are interested and trying out the brand.

lip cremes skinny dip palette skinny dip and rose gold highlighters

So, I’ll go ahead and let you guys know now that I did not swatch the highlighters. That being because mine came shattered. I know that Jouer’s highlighter formula is veryyyy soft and it crumbles easily so it probably just got tossed around too much during the shipping because it was shipped in very nice packaging and wrapped well. I did email them but have not got a response yet. Hopefully, I will get that soon so I can use these babies. Now, on to the swatches!

skinny dip palette skinny dip palette

skinny dip palette swatches

Skinny Dip Ultra Foil Shimmer Shadows (from left to right: Midnight Swim, Magic Hour, Tan Lines, Skinny Dip, Bikini, and Star Light

Excuse the massive amounts of glitter on my arm as I swatched the Stila Magnificent Metals glitter eyeshadows right before this and… that wasn’t my best idea. ? So, these are extremely pigmented and creamy shimmer shadows. I am obsessed with this formula. My favorite is probably Star Light just because it is sooo shiny. The only disappointing shade would be Bikini, which is the light, baby pink color. It’s not that it is not pretty much it feels like a much different formula than the rest of the shadows. Maybe it was packed too tightly but I couldn’t get a lot of product off when swatching it.

lip toppers and lip cremes

From left to right: Rayanne, Pamplemousse (lip crèmes), St. Tropez, Skinny Dip (lip toppers)

lip cremes

From left to right (lip crèmes): Cabernet, Brique, Lychee, Tawny Rose (my personal favorite so far and the one I tested on my lips)

Now, first impressions, I am obsessed. These are an amazing mousse-y formula that is super opaque on the lips. I tested out Tawny Rose to see how it wore and it stayed on like a dream and looked amazing on my skin tone. The only one that surprised me, though I am not disappointed, was Cabernet. Due to the color in the tub, I excited something deeper and darker than the shade after (Brique), but it was just as bright and just more violet in my opinion. Still a gorgeous color!

Overall, I am very pleased with the new products I’ve tested. Hopefully, I’ll be able to do a Jouer highlighter post to make up for the lack of swatches in this one. I think I’ll have four total once I get replacements for the two that came broken. So, what are your opinions of Jouer Cosmetics? Do you use their products?
