Blogger Spotlight | Julia at Glass of Class

julia glass of class

This week’s Blogger Spotlight goes to this gorgeous lifestyle blogger named Julia. She is twenty-two years old and resides in the beautiful city of London. The interview consisted of focusing on her creative nature and her blog as a whole. Below is the interview I had with Julia as well as the links to her social media and her blog.

julia glass of class

Q1: As you started your blog for you to “put your creativity” to use, what other things do you find yourself exceptionally creative at?

I use my creativity in all aspects of life, I think. I’m creative when I do my makeup, cook, bake and even clean. I am always on the lookout for new things to make and I absolutely love everything related to DIY. And looking at the end product knowing that you made it yourself is one of the best feelings in the world. Still, my favourite thing to do is writing – I write not only blog posts, but I tend to write poems and short stories, letters and notes; my mind just comes up with so many ideas that I cannot sit and let it go to waste.

Q2: What is your favorite topic to blog about?

My favourite topic to blog about would be makeup and anything beauty. I’d like to think that I am good at it, but the truth is that I am still learning. I think that’s why it’s my favourite, because through doing my research I can expand my knowledge. So on my blog, you can expect many makeup looks, both invented by me and inspired by celebrities. I also love recreating different hairstyles and I’m planning to include that in my posts as well. My boyfriend says that I’m like an artist when it comes to hair, so I’m positive it’ll turn out alright.

Q3: Do you have any sneak peeks into what we can expect to see from your blog in the future?

I have a really long list of blog posts I’d like to write and I am slowly working on them. I’m really excited because I think they are interesting so hopefully, I’ll get it done and be happy enough with them to post. All I can promise is that I will always be myself and be painfully honest with a healthy dose of humour and sarcasm because that’s what I’m about. As long as my readers enjoy themselves and have a little laugh when reading my blog posts then I know I’m doing something right. So keep your eyes peeled, you won’t regret visiting my blog.

Q4: Who are your top 3 influences for you, as a blogger?

I’d say that the biggest influence for me is the whole blogging community. I read loads of different blogs and learn from them. Nobody would understand what it’s like to blog apart from another blogger. But if I’m lacking inspiration I always ask my friends what they would like to read about, what they struggle with or what would be good to write about and they always have a topic for me that just clicks. And I’ll be a bit cliche now, but Zoella would be my biggest influence when it comes to blogging. I mean, this girl can do everything, can’t she?

Q5: Is there anything you would tell something who is wanting to start a blog of their own?

I would definitely recommend writing a blog. It is such a good hobby/passion to have and most of the time you don’t even have to spend a lot of money on it! Plus, connecting with other bloggers is so much fun. Everyone I have spoken to has been really nice, welcoming and helpful. What is more, for me my blog is a place where I can be fully myself and I don’t have to pretend anything to be liked. If someone enjoys my content – that’s amazing, makes me extremely happy. If someone doesn’t – well, there will be others who will.

The Liebster Award

I am so excited to be writing this as I was, once again, nominated for the Liebster Award. When I was previously Blogs for Days, I was also nominated and I was super proud! This time, I was nominated by Lisa so make sure you go check out her blog and leave some love.

liebster award

So, for this award, the person nominating you asks you 11 questions and you answer them, nominate 11 bloggers, and create 11 new questions for them to answer on their blogs! Here are the questions that Lisa asked me.

1. What inspired you to start a blog?

My blog started as an outlet for my anxiety and depression. I have struggled with this for as long as I can remember and it took me up until two years ago, when I started my first blog, to realize that I needed help. I got on some medicine and I created Blogs for Days. After awhile, I decided to change to Life of Kimberly as I felt it fit me better and I love when blog names include the names of the bloggers. Initially, I had no idea there was such a large community of bloggers but I quickly discovered them on Twitter and kept engaging and meeting new people until I got to the point where I felt super comfortable in the blogging world. I feel so welcome and part of the community now. 💕

2. What is your favorite quote?

My favorite quote is from Harry Potter and it is said by Albus Dumbledore: “Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.” This has been a quote that has stuck with me throughout the years. I have had many dark times in my life where I felt there was no “light” at the end of the tunnel. This is something that puts my mind into the proper state and helps me stay in the positive mindset that I have focused in on for the past few years.

3. If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what song would it be and why?

In Between by Beartooth, no question. This is my favorite song and I actually have lyrics from it tattooed on my back. This song is really just something that helps with my mental health overall. Specifically, when my mom passed away this past September, I was broken. I had come to the point where I was not sure what meaning I had left in life. I still struggle daily but I got my tattoo because I needed to force myself into who I was before. She would have never wanted me to be in this state and I need to be happy for her. In the song, it says, “It’s easy to lose yourself, I know,” and that has stuck with me since the first time I hear the song.

4. What type of blog posts do you enjoy reading? (lifestyle, beauty, etc.)

I love to read all types but lifestyle, beauty, and college-related posts are generally the ones that I gravitate towards as they are what my niche is as well. I have a special place in my heart for beauty and college posts as they are what basically got me started in the blogging world. I have huge Pinterest boards for both of those areas!

5. What are your top 5 favorite films?

This is so hard! I have so many films that I love. If I had to choose just five…
#1 Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
#2 Alice in Wonderland
#3 Nightmare on Elm Street
#4 Freddy vs. Jason
#5 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

6. What is your favorite season, and why?

Hands down, my favorite season is fall. I love the weather, the holidays, and just the general atmosphere during that time. Plus, that weather is what the majority of my clothing is made for so I definitely get to look a lot cuter when it is the fall, windy, and cool weather. I also just love the colors, all the beautiful reds, yellows, and oranges just speak to me.

7. If you could go back in time, where would you go?

If I could go back in time, I would go back to the birthday trip to Florida I had with my mom. She was so excited for that trip and she planned it just for us after my original plans had fallen through. She was one of the most selfless and amazing human beings I have ever known. Losing her has been the single most difficult experience I have ever had to deal with and I miss her every single day. I would go back to tell her all the things I wish I got to say before she passed, even though I knew she knew them. I would tell her how much I love her, I would hug her for as long as possible, and I would be able to hear her tell me, “I love you, baby girl,” one last time.

8. What is your biggest achievement so far?

I believe my biggest achievement in life so far is staying in college. I graduate in December and I could not be more proud of myself. There were days when I just wanted to throw the towel in and these last four years have felt like they would never come to an end. I cannot believe that I will have a bachelor’s degree in December. I have worked so hard for this accomplishment.

9. What is your biggest pet peeve?

I think my biggest pet peeve is probably just rudeness. It seems so simple but I try really hard to be happy and positive all the time and when someone is rude for absolutely no reason at all, or even if they have a reason, I just find it extremely intolerable. I understand being annoyed or upset but that should never transfer into how you treat a person. You could be the difference to any person you encounter and you never want that to be a negative experience.

10. What is the number 1 thing on your bucket list?

The number one thing on my bucket list is probably to move to a big city and make a life for myself. It seems like something that’s not over the top but I have lived in small towns my entire life where there’s not much to do and going on trips to big cities always make me so happy. I would love to live some place where I could literally walk anywhere and get where I need to go and I can just get work done in a little coffee shop around the corner. That kind of living has always been something I have strived for.

11. What is one thing you have learned since you started blogging?

I think the one thing that I have learned is to make content for you as well as your readers. Writing a blog generally is targeted at reaching a specific audience and, although you still want to do that, readers are not going to keep coming back if you are just writing for views/engagement. You need to write about things you love, things that have to do with you as a person. From my experience, these are the types of blogs that have the most success.

Now here are my 11 questions for the bloggers that I will be nominating.

  1. What is your favorite type of blog post to read?
  2. Do you have any special talents that no one really knows about?
  3. If you could brag on yourself about one thing, what would it be?
  4. What is your favorite kind of animal and why?
  5. If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
  6. What is your favorite part about the blogging community?
  7. What are your blogging goals for the rest of this year?
  8. What are your all-time favorite skincare products?
  9. Do you have a favorite band? If so, who are they and why are they your favorite? If not, why not?
  10. What are three things that you say all the time in real life?
  11. Do you believe in love at first sight? Why or why not?

Finally, these are the lovely people that I am nominating for the Liebster Award.

  1. Jacqueline at Jackie O My
  2. Stephanie at Steph & Home
  3. Indya at The Small Adventurer
  4. Briana at MySpiritedLifestyle
  5. Kasey at Adventures in Adulting
  6. Kami at Life with Kami
  7. Shaz at The Shaz Diaries
  8. Lay at Lay Summers
  9. Joyce at The Joyce Collective
  10. Cassidy at Cassidy’s Adventures
  11. Steph at Unwind with Steph

Congrats, guys! Don’t forget to tag me in your posts on social media so I can leave some love. ❤️

Blogger Spotlight | Becca at Becx Blogs

becca becx blogs

This week’s Blogger Spotlight goes to a fab lady named Becca! She is a twenty-four-year-old blogger from Newcastle upon Tyne. She has been in the realm of creating content online since she was 18 but blogging was something that came along for her later. Below is the interview I had with Becca as well as her links to her social media and her blog.

Q1: What made you take the switch from being a YouTuber to doing blogging instead?

Back when I was 18-20, I made YouTube videos on dog training; like how to train tricks and clicker training. I got up to 800 subscribers and I was proud of it. As I left university and started working full time, I focused more on work and didn’t make any videos for 4 years. Since I’m currently unable to work at the moment because of illness, I wanted to get back into making videos and uploaded a couple. I saw on Twitter and Instagram that quite a lot of people wrote blogs, and genuinely just thought… why not? I like writing, I like creating, I have things I would like to share! I made my first post in June and since then things have gone pretty well I think, and I’m really enjoying it. Although, I do still upload videos, I’m definitely spending a lot more time on my blog. It’s probably 80% blogging and 20% YouTube! I now have about 655 subscribers on YouTube and not many followers on my blog, but I’m very happy with how many views I have on it, it’s still early days.

Q2: What is your favorite thing to blog about?

I want to blog about everything that I’m interested in and the things I’m passionate about. There’s quite a few so, my blog is going to have quite varied content, and I quite like that idea. Last August I was diagnosed with an incurable auto-immune disease called Ulcerative Colitis and my experience has been super up and down. I got pushed out of a job because of how difficult one employer was with it, and it all seemed to boil down to lack of understanding and awareness. I want to raise awareness and share my experiences on it to help others. I wrote a blog called “Living with Ulcerative Colitis” which has so far, been my most popular post. My other interests include dog training, gaming, lifestyle and beauty. So, it’s quite literally, a bit of everything. I want to promote positive, reward based training for dogs, since I’m heavily into dog agility and trick training. My “hobbies” around that are things I do every single day, and things I really enjoy talking about and spend a lot of time on, so it makes sense to include them – and that’s all things beauty and games. I’m a huge makeup enthusiast and I’ve been an avid gamer since I was a child. I’m just one big geek really!

Q3: How does your Ulcerative Colitis diagnosis affect your daily life?

Ulcerative Colitis is a horrible disease, it causes your immune system to attack itself inside your colon and intestines, making them swollen, inflamed, ulcerated and bleed. The main symptoms that I experience are extreme abdominal pain, urgency and frequency with the toilet, bleeding, chronic fatigue, joint inflammation, and it’s generally just a pain in the butt. I take around 6 different medications every day to try and control it, and I have endless hospital appointments, and now have a specialist consultant and nurse that I see every 6-8 weeks. I’m not currently working. I ended up on sick leave. My employer made life much harder than it needed to be, to the point where the stress and anxiety at work, made my illness so much more intense. I felt like I just had to leave that negative environment. I remember I was sick one day, she sent me home around dinner time and I took the next day off. I went back to work and was accused of faking my disease. That was the pinnacle which pushed my decision to leave. It also affects your mental health, so I struggle with depression and generalised anxiety disorder, which I’ve had therapy for and take medication for that as well. So those are some area’s I’ll likely address in my blog in the future.

Q4: What advice do you have for a blogger just starting out?

I would definitely recommend using Twitter, a lot. I got involved with comment swaps, follow trains, and used BloggersTribe, BBlogRT and NEBloggers (I’m in the North East). They were brilliant, when you hashtag them, they retweet you, and they’re often the ones hosting the comment swaps. I made sure I was reading other people’s blogs and staying active, replying to people, sharing their blogs to help them, and I found they in return wanted to help me. I think the community in general are super supportive, it’s amazing. I’m now in an Instagram group for comment and like swaps and I’m in a Twitter one as well. I think most of all, just enjoy what you’re writing, your passion shines through and people will like that.

Q5: What is one quote that inspires you, as a blogger, and why?

My favourite quote, probably of all time, is from The Imitation Game. It’s an amazing film, you must watch it if you haven’t already! “Sometimes it is the people no one imagines anything of who do the things that no one can imagine.”

Note from the Blogger:

The blog is going to be a bit of everything, so there should be something for any kind of person. I’m still new so I’m sure I’ll begin to find certain posts I really like making eventually 🙂

Blogger Spotlight | I Woz Ere

blogger spotlight i woz ere

This week’s Blogger Spotlight goes to a mysterious blogger that wishes to keep their true identity a secret. Respecting this and loving the blog, I still wanted to get some insight into them as a person and the blog. Below is the interview I had with the writer at I Woz Ere as well as the links to social media and the blog.

blogger spotlight i woz ere

Q1: What was your favorite adventure you have encountered thus far in life?

I was lucky enough to take a year out to travel. I saved enough so I didn’t have to work and planned out a trip with a friend. We each had an absolute ‘I must do’ and picked a route together around them. My absolute must was Route 66 and it was just as I had ever imagined. All bar the Cadillac! We had a Ford Focus, not quite the dream car, but definitely a dream part of my adventure.

Q2: What advice do you have for someone wanting to dive into blogging?

For new bloggers, I would say anyone can do it. Just find your voice and start putting your thoughts into words in front of you. Be clear about what you want to share and stick with it. It’s your interpretation so there’s no right or wrong. But you do want to have your own unique style. Trial and error until you find it. Good luck 👍

Q3: What was it like moving from Yorkshire to London?

I had lived in Yorkshire for the majority of my life, but my year out had got me wanting to see and do more. Whilst my heart will always remain in Yorkshire, my move to London was an easy one. There is so much to see and do and there is a great mixed culture, so I still get to meet lots of new people and it definitely keeps my adventurous side ticking until I can travel some more.

Q4: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I have always wanted to try the transiberian express. I wanted to stick it onto my year out, but it would be a real contrast of thick snugly warm clothing, which wouldn’t go well with Australasian climates! I will be ticking it off my bucket list though for sure. I can’t wait to take pictures with those stunning landscapes. I also think it would be fun to drink vodka with the locals in the carriages!

Q5: What is the best advice you can give to another blogger with your niche?

To other bloggers in my niche: tell the reader something they don’t know, that’s what we all want, new information 🙂

Note from the Blogger:

I’m excited to share my adventures with everyone who wants to get involved. I had a group called ‘Coming to a Town/City near you…….’ on Facebook, that was a smaller version of my adventure.

Blogger Spotlight | Cairon at Travel Bear

cairon travel bear

Another Blogger Spotlight for you guys! This babe is all about travel. Cairon is a 25-year-old blogger from Northumberland, England. Today’s interview is going to focus a lot on the travel and mental health aspects of her blog as that is what she emphasized in our personal conversation! Below is the interview I had with Cairon as well as her links to her social media and her blog.

cairon travel bear

Q1: What inspired you to travel to Australia?

I was inspired to go travelling to Australia because of a family holiday to Florida in April. The holiday came during the height of my mental break down and it wasn’t until I was in Florida that I started to feel better and like there was something worth living for. I decided once I got home from this holiday that I needed to pursue my passion for travel & I wanted to go somewhere in the sunshine…So I chose Australia. Then once I started to research it and saw how much there was to do there I couldn’t not book it!!

Q2: As you mentioned that you are using your blog as a way to write about your mental health issues, what kinds do you struggle with specifically?

I struggle with anxiety & depression quite badly. Earliest this year I was very ill, I couldn’t leave the house, go to work, talk to friends. I felt so so isolated. But with the help of one amazing friend in particular I started to open up about the dangerous thoughts I was having and got the help I needed to start to feel better. Then I went on my holiday & started to chase my dreams.

Q3: Do you think that you will eventually dive into providing advice to those who are thinking of traveling?

I would love to help people live their dreams of travel! Part of my blog now is all the details of all the preparation going into my trip so that if anyone is considering it they can look at all the steps they need to do to complete it! Obviously once i’m out there in Hong Kong & Australia i’ll be able to give more first hand information about my experience which I hope will be helpful!

Q4: What is one piece of advice you would give an aspiring blogger?

I would say…write for you! Don’t worry about what anyone else thinks or wants to see. When you’re starting write about things YOU care about and your passions. This will shine through to people who share the same interests and your following will grow naturally! I tried to start my blog & only focus on travel – but after a week or so I realised I didn’t feel like I was being true to myself and it has slowly developed into the most intimate and honest place in my life/ Because of this I received such amazing feedback from people saying I’ve helped them with things too. It feels amazing!

Q5: Do you think that mental health should be made more of a priority in day-to-day life? If so, why? If not, why not?

I think mental health should be a priority for each and every person! Yes, not everyone wil get a mental illness, but EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN THE WORLD has mental health. It’s essential to know how to maintain and care for this, know what triggers your anxieties or stress. We’re all human, we’re all affected by things on occassion. We need to normalise mental health completely. It is just as essential as physical health and two are completely interlinked! It should be taught to us from a young age in schools and then carried through with us into adulthood and the workplace. Mental health is crucial to our producitvity and happiness in every aspect of life; friendships, relationships, work, study, family. To me it is just completely essential and needs to be spoken about so much in society. That’s why I’m so proud of what I’ve achieved with my little blog so far and hope to take it so much further in the future!

Blogger Spotlight | April at Travelling Wanderer

april travelling wanderer

Bringing back my Blogger Spotlight series and I am so excited to be doing so! The first blogger I am featuring is this sweetheart, April. She has been a doll and I have enjoyed getting to know her on Twitter (@travellinwander) and love how raw she is on her blog. Below is the interview I had with April as well as her links to her social media and her blog.

april travelling wanderer

Q1: As you stated in our conversation, you changed your blog’s name from “Hopeless Wanderer” to “Travelling Wanderer”. Is there a particular reason or did you feel this was more suited to your style?

“Hopeless Wanderer” originated from the Mumford Sons song which I felt personally connected to. Specifically, the lyric “I will learn, I will learn to love the skies I’m under.” After I started to focus more on my blog and what I wanted to write about, I realized that when you travel the feeling of hopelessness rarely occurs. Through travelling and broadening my world of perspective, I realize that I am far from hopeless which sparked the name change. I travel, and I am a wanderer person driven by a taste for discovery, newness and invention, a person who sees adventure in the every day, in every moment.

Q2: What do you think the most exciting part of traveling is?

I love that travel awakens your senses, and makes your life rich with experiences. The world is so busy, that some people forget to take time away to explore new areas. The exciting part about travelling is that you embrace the unknown, and muster up the courage to be in an area unfamiliar to explore. You gain a broad perspective of the world outside of your own, and that can plant seeds to help your own personal growth. Travelling is about the beautiful places to you go, meeting new people, and gaining riches that will last a lifetime.

Q3: What are the top 5 places you want to travel to?

One of the top places that I want to go to is Alaska, ever since I was little. I dream of one day being able to stargaze in the forests, and capture astrophotography of the stars and northern lights being as one. Secondly, I would love to travel to Thailand to be embraced in culture, the food, ride an elephant, and to wander the beautiful beaches. Third, I want to go to Iceland to encapture all the scenery, and go to the Blue Lagoon. Fourth, I want to go to Oregon (which I will moving there in the upcoming months) as I am a sucker for the oregon forests and coastline that hugs the entire state. Fifth, I want to go to Greece for the intrigueing culture and to see the different towns. This travel list continues…

Q4: Do you have any tips for newbies who want to dive into the world of blogging?

In the world of blogging I am still considered a newbie, however, if I was to give one piece of advice I would say to just be yourself. There is a whole blogging world out there, find it and connect, but stay true to what your original creation is and continue to be uniquely different. Follow your love and always remember the reason why you started it, to use your passion to inspire yourself and others.

Q5: To you, what does the quote “Not all those who wander are lost,” mean?

A person who wanders does not need to have a destination or a goal, and that would not deem them as lost. These wanderers have a deep curiousity and need to explore without a compass or a map. It is about where that journey takes you, it is not about the destination or where you plan to go. Some wanderers, are lost and hopeless because they have not realized the value of the journey, only focusing on the destination. It is about learning to love the sky you are under, and following the wind without hesitation on the journey that you were meant for.

Why I unfollowed a Christian’s blog

unfollowed

Yes, I’m aware that the title may cause a little uprising and this post overall might lose me some followers, but honestly… I’m okay with that. I do have a reason that I unfollowed a Christian’s blog.

Now, my views on religion are a moot point in this post, although this particular person is using their religion as a crutch for their backward beliefs, religion has nothing to do with this issue. I still, for the life of me, cannot understand what the issue is with people living their lives the way they want to. It does not affect you, it does not hurt you. In the end, if you believe in God, then you know that he judges all in the end. It is not your place to judge someone’s decision to be transgendered, gay, bisexual, asexual, or whatever one chooses to be. It is not your place to judge someone for wanting a separate bathroom because they are uncomfortable with both the female and male options. Why do people think it is okay to judge someone else’s lifestyle?

If you don’t want to be transgendered, don’t be. If you don’t want to go to a certain store because that store is accepting of all individuals, then don’t… but don’t blame your inability to see the ignorance of how you are acting on your religion. God does not tell you to judge others. He does not tell you to treat a business or a person differently because of their beliefs. What if your best friend turned out to be transgendered? What is your mother decided to make the transformation? Would you tell them they are wrong and “boycott” them? I would hope not.

Our society today seems to have this crazy idea in their head that what other people do somehow affects them, their marriages, and their beliefs. If you are so easily affected, then I would do some questioning of your own religion because that should be a red flag. I do not think that I am better than anyone else, I do not think that my beliefs are better than anyone else’s, and I do not think that what others do will affect my life.

This reason is why I unfollowed a Christian’s blog. Although she posted fabulous content, most of the time, and seemed to be a great gal, I cannot support nor justify views that are negative towards another with no rhyme or reason. Please do not take this as “Well, their reason is that they don’t believe that,” because that was the whole point of this post. They may not believe in it, but it does not give them the right to judge another for not believing what they believe in. My biggest wish for the future is that we will live in a world that does not judge others. I know this is truly wishful thinking and, sadly, never going to happen, but a girl can dream, right?

Rant over.

Blogger Spotlight | Alex at “Me So Hapa”

For my next blogger to featured in my Blogger Spotlight series, we have an amazing lady that likes to represent and embrace her culture as well as advocate for those who are similar to herself! I am featuring Alex from “Me So Hapa“. I recently became friends with this blogger through Twitter and she’s been a complete sweetheart from the start. I love her blog – especially how she features another hapa, like herself, in a segment called “Hapa Hour” every week! Now, onto the interview!

1. What do you think the biggest misconception is regarding “hapas”?
Oh man, there are several that come to mind. One being we are this “exotic” species. It drives me crazy. I am continually being asked, “what are you?” My response has literally become “I am human.” Another big misconception is how people are continually trying to put us into a “box”. For example, because I am half Japanese, I, therefore, am considered full Asian. Never mind the other half of me, that’s completely irrelevant due to the fact that as American’s we only see the “ethnic” side of someone rather than the “white”. However, it’s  hilarious because I am continually being told I am not Asian enough.
All these misconceptions are why I am producing a multicultural cabaret at The Triad in NYC (Click the link to check it out!), September 12th. I want to tear down the stereotypes, show the world that we Hapas are human and the bridge between cultures, ethnicities, and creeds. We are human.

2. What is your favorite food dish, why, and what does it include in it?
OMG, I love food and having to pick one dish sucks! Haha. Well, since I have to pick one, I’m gonna go with my maternal Grandmama’s Sweet Sour Cabbage with Marrow Bones, Short Ribs and Flanken in Tomato Sauce. This dish has been in my family for generations all the way back to Romania and France.

3. Are there cultures other than your own that you want to learn about? If so, which ones and why?
I want to learn about every culture! I think it’s absolutely fascinating how we are all so similar! Being a half Japanese, French, Russian, Romanian Jew I’ve really only explored the Jewish and Japanese side. I’m really excited to being going back to Paris with my family. I can’t wait to explore Parisian Culture. I feel like the last time I was there it was just all about hitting as many museums as possible.
I LOVE to travel! I’ve always been interested in Egyptian culture. I hope to visit Egypt one day. I also want to explore Asia! So much good food to eat!
I basically want to travel so that I can eat foods from different cultures.

4. What made you decide to start a blog based on your ethnicity?
I’ve never really felt like I belonged. When I moved to NYC I met so many other Hapas who felt the exact same way. I thought why not start something where I can bring people together that have always felt like an outsider. Hapas are a minority within a minority. Also, I love food! Hapas have a unique approach to food. I thought this could be a really cool blog. Oh, and each week I feature a Hapa and we talk about food and difficulties being multicultural in the entertainment industry. Like I said before, Hapas are continually being told they aren’t “white”, “black”, “Asian” etc. enough. With the lack of diversity on stage and screen, I wanted to voice these problems. Change begins with me.

5. If you could give one piece of advice to someone struggling to “live life”, what would it be?
Stop worrying so much about what other people think of you. Seriously, it will make your life soooo much easier and less stressful. Find what you are passionate about. Stop being scared of failure, that isn’t actually a thing… That is a state of mind. Surround yourself with good, positive people. Eat yummy food. Dye your hair that crazy color you’ve always wanted to try. Live your life to its fullest capacity and fill it with love! You and you alone have the power to change your life for the better! I feel it is our duty to leave this planet a better place. And remember to breathe!

August Goals

I can’t believe August is here already! It feels like yesterday that July started and I was getting everything ready for my boyfriend officially move in. Now he’s moved in, I’m loving my job, I signed up for sorority recruitment, and school starts in less than two weeks! I’m so happy that this time is finally back. I love summer but I feel like it’s far too long sometimes. I love school (yes, I’m one of those) and being out for THREE MONTHS drives me up the wall with boredom.

Now, with a new month comes new goals! Not only will I be setting goals for the month of August but I’ll also be setting goals for the upcoming fall semester (Stay tuned for that post!). However, this is only for my monthly goals so let’s get into it…

Personal Goals

#1 Focus of loving myself a little more. | I’ve worked so hard towards this goal in the last year or so and I’ve really improved. However, with work and being busy, I’ve neglected it. I don’t try as hard and I don’t feel as good about myself because of it. I love doing my hair and makeup in the mornings because it makes me feel good. I love wearing edgy yet cute outfits because I feel amazing in them.

#2 Finish my current book of choice. | I am currently reading a novel called “A Version of The Truth” by Jennifer Kaufman and Karen Mack. I’m in love with it so far. I’ll definitely have to do a book review on the blog once I finish it but I can already tell it’s going to be a good’n.

#3 Throw myself into the semester/school activities. | School is one of my favorite parts of life… which explains why I want to be a teacher and get three degrees at minimum. I’m so excited for classes to start back and I’ll be a SENIOR this year. That’s crazy! I am finally going out for sorority recruitment so I’m beyond excited. I’m also an officer in a few organizations so I really want to plunge into that at full speed.

#4 Pick up the apartment daily. | I’m really bad at this. I get so busy with work here lately that I always let it get a mess before I clean it… mostly because I’m so exhausted and just wait until my day off. My goal is to continually pick up around here every day so I don’t have a HUGE mess to clean once my days off come around.

#5 Lose 5 more pounds. | I started counting calories and working on my weight loss journey once again almost three weeks ago. I have now lost 10 pounds since then and I could not be more excited. I’m so proud of myself and I can’t wait to continue to lose more. As a guide, I want to lose at least 5 more pounds in the month of August. I lost so much recently that this shouldn’t be too hard if I keep eating healthy.

Blogging Goals

#1 Reach 50 email followers. | I had over 1,000 email followers on my previous blog before my unfortunate incident happened. This is honestly what hurt me the most because I lost all of them. Most of my social media was easy to transfer or pick back up but I haven’t had as much luck with this. I’m going to seriously try to up my email follower game this month. (You should totally go to the sidebar and sign-up if you haven’t already. 😘)

#2 Reach 50 Bloglovin’ followers. | The same goes for this as does my email followers. I had to remake my Bloglovin’ when I got a new blog (naturally). I don’t have barely any followers here either but I’m planning the same course of action. Hopefully, my Facebook blogging groups and Twitter will help me build up my followers. (If you want to be a doll, you can also follow me on Bloglovin’ here.)

#3 Continue to schedule posts ahead of time. | I think this is going to be what keeps me from getting behind once classes start back up so I have GOT to do it. I plan to get about two weeks worth out before the first day of classes (if I can manage it) so I don’t have too much to worry about until I’m at least a week into classes so I can focus on getting a feel for the semester.

#4 Stay on my blogging schedule. | I currently have new posts go live on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This puts me at posting three times a week, which seems to be good for me and an easier schedule to live up to. I even did a poll and everyone agreed that this was best. I want to stick to this throughout school coming back (this is REALLY hard for me).

#5 Keep up with my new Facebook group, Blogwarts. | Blogwarts is a new group that I created that is going AMAZINGLY. It’s based on Hogwarts from the Harry Potter series, only for bloggers! I have so many amazing admins and members that have made my 19 members grow to almost 100 now in only a few days. This is so mind-blowing. I couldn’t be more grateful. I want to keep up with this and help it grow as much as possible. (Click here if you want to join in and be sorted into your very own house. ⚡️)

hello august
