New Home, New Start

my cat Lily

I’ve got some news for you all! I am now moving into a one-bedroom apartment, on my own. I have never completely alone before so this is going to be a new adventure for me. I am super excited to finally just have a place to myself to do what I’d like but also very nervous. The only reason I’ve always had a roommate is that I get a lot of anxiety being alone in “unprotected” places, I guess you would call it. Since we don’t have security or anything other than the lock on my door for my apartment, it’s weird being here alone. It’s kind of nerve-wracking.

moving out

However, I think I can do it! The plan is to move over on June 30th (yes, only a little over 13 days away). I have not even begun packing and I’m not even sure of where to start. I need to get boxes, organize stuff, get rid of things I don’t use, and clean my place. A friend of mine is actually taking over my two-bedroom, which is why I was able to get the one-bedroom. Being without a roommate, it was nonsense to have a two-bedroom just for me. I will now have my only little corner and it won’t be too incredibly expensive.

Thankfully my brother, nephew, and one of my brother’s friends are going to help me move everything over once the day comes. It’s so hot here in Kentucky so I am really hoping for a cool day whenever we have to do all of that (probably not going to happen). I am very grateful that this is happening a month before student teaching because I don’t think I’d be able to do that and this at the same time. Any of you got big things going on soon? Moving? Got a new pet? New job? Update me in the comments!

Blogmas Day 21 | 7 Ways to Be Creative at Home

7 ways to be creative at home

Being creative can be tough when you’re stuck at home with nothing to do, but never fear, but I’ve got your back! I am constantly stuck at home with no money and no desire to leave so I’ve come up with various ways to get creative at home and keep you from dying of boredom. Creativity can make you feel better about yourself because you’re creating all these different outcomes with just you as the motivation to keep going!

1. Start a DIY project. DIY projects are amazing at home ways to get creative. You can do so many things with stuff you have laying around the house. I’ve made makeup organizers from boxes before and I use them for tons of my makeup now! As the saying goes, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

2. Write in your journal. Writing is such an amazing outlet. Being able to express yourself where no one else can judge you is such a great way to release stress, sadness, anger, and even joy. I have a journal where I just jot down whatever is on my mind with no rhyme or reason for the way it’s written.

3. Paint canvases for your loved ones. Painting is one of my favorite de-stressors! I can paint whatever I want. I can paint for my loved ones like I mentioned or just for myself. I love listening to music and then painting lyrics with little pictures to go along with them. It makes for such an awesome feeling of relaxation.

4. Make up a dance routine to your favorite song. Dancing is something I love to do all the time. Whether I’m dancing around at work while in the kitchen, dancing while cleaning my house, or dancing before I’m hanging out with my friends, you can probably find me dancing at least once a day. It’s great exercise and it’s so much fun.

5. Redecorate. Redecorating always makes me love my space that much more. Whether it’s hanging up the canvases you just painted or moving around all your furniture, redecorating can make any place feel brand new. I love making an area look brand new by just moving some stuff and hanging up some photos.

6. Create a new recipe. Cooking is a great way to pass the time and be creative. Sometimes we’re just cooking some noodles for ramen but we can come up with so many different recipes with things we have just lying around our kitchen. Look in your cabinets and let the your taste buds be the guinea pigs.

7. Make a photo collage of your day. Documenting that day can be done through more than just writing. You can take photos of all your day’s activities in creative ways and put them together for the picture Instagram photo. Take a photo of your morning coffee, your workout outfit, or even the book you’re reading with a far shot of your fluffy pajamas.

Being able to have fun at home is one of the greatest things ever if you take advantage of it. That’s why you’ve got to get creative. Try some of these things whenever you need a little boost or just something to keep your juices flowing.

My Personal Five-Year Plan

five-year plan

Thinking about the future is so scary. One day you’re going to classes as a freshman in college and the next you’re hopping into your senior year,  planning to study abroad in Ireland, and preparing for student teaching. I am both extremely excited and beyond terrified for what my future holds but, in true Kimberly form, I have to plan it all out to not have a total anxiety attack. That is why I am going to share with you all my five-year plan for my personal life! I plan to do an entirely different plan for the blogging world.

As 2016 is getting closer and closer to being over, I’m starting this plan at the beginning of 2017. This will be the spring semester of my senior year (although I will have to have an extra semester for my student teaching in order to graduate). I will be preparing for this new endeavor as well as searching for jobs to enter into once I graduate in the following semester.

2017

2017 is going to be a year full of tons of new things. Not only is it my last year I’ll be studying for my bachelor’s degree but I am planning a trip to Ireland to study abroad during that summer. The last semester I study is also the semester that I will be doing my student teaching which consists of half a semester in a special education classroom and half of a semester in a general elementary level classroom.

2018

This will be my first year a college graduate. That is insane! I don’t even want to think about that at this point but I’m really excited for it, regardless. My plan is to find a job in the field of special education (preferably in an elementary school) in my immediate area however I am willing to go as far as Nashville, Tennessee in order to find something. I want to spend the four years I have to work in a Title I school near home so I can work on saving to move to a new city as well as get settled into a job that can train me for bigger and better things. That being said, I will start saving for The Big Move starting in 2018!

2019

After I have been working for about a year, I want to look into continuing my education. I have plans to get at least two masters degrees and my doctorate but I’ve got to start somewhere. I will be starting my first master’s degree where I will be studying Moderate to Severe Disabilities. Depending on where I am living, I will either continue my education at Murray State University or switch to another university for graduate school. My bachelor’s degree is in Learning and Behavior Disorders and having a more extensive education in more areas of special education will not only help me be a better teacher but allow me to have better job opportunities.

2020

Continuing my second semester and third semester of graduate school while working full time, this is when I’ll start planning The Big Move that I plan on taking. One of the main places that my boyfriend and I are hoping to move to is Portland, Oregon – however, I am also interested in moving to Los Angeles, California or Chicago, Illinois. (Unrealistically, I reaaally want to move to London, England some day!) I will continue working and finish my first year of graduate school successfully while doing so. My main concerns will be saving money still and looking at exact locations of where we will definitely end up.

2021

My last semester of graduate school for my first master’s degree will take place at the beginning of this year. To continue The Big Move, I will be looking for a place to live, another job in our chosen location, and getting ready for the process to truly begin. This is where I really feel like my life will begin. Leaving my family to go to another state is going to be scary but my ultimate goal is to make a life for myself and Travis independently where we can start our lives together.
