HONEST Review & Swatches | Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Palette

abh subculture palette

There’s been quite a bit of controversy over this palette and, after testing it out myself, I’m a little confused. On the blog today, we’re going to be swatching and reviewing the new Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture eyeshadow palette. First off, I never really follow the “trends” when it comes to opinions unless it is that of a beauty guru that has similar makeup wants, skin type, etc. to myself and is one that I trust. So, when Laura Lee gave some sketch comments on this palette, I was weary… but even she, as well as Manny MUA, stated that this palette is pig-men-ted. That’s a sell for me so I immediately went and purchased it from Sephora.

When I came home to this palette on my doorstep, I went inside and immediately swatched it. First off, I totally see the fallout aspect that people are getting all bent out of shape about. It does have fallout but… it’s not as bad, in my opinion, as everyone is making it out to be. Granted, I watched the videos above and it looks pretty bad but I did finger swatches (which, yes, I realize will have different results) and I really dig into the colors whenever I do this. Even digging in, I did not get as much fallout as I thought I would after watching the above videos. I don’t know if they stepped up the formula a bit after seeing all the negative comments/reviews regarding the palette and they are sending out improved versions, but that’s the only explanation that I have for this? I honestly think this is a beautiful palette. I’m obsessed with the unique color scheme and these shades are so pigmented, it’s insane.

fallout fallout 2 fallout 3

Now that we’ve touched on the tea, let’s get into the swatches of this bad boy.

top row subculture

Top Row (top to bottom, left to right in palette): Cube, Dawn, Destiny, Adorn, All Star, Mercury, and Axis

bottom row subculture

Bottom Row (same order as above): Roxy, Electric, Fudge, New Wave, Untamed, Edge, and Rowdy

And that’s my review of this palette! I would definitely get this if you haven’t yet. Fallout is not something that makes me say no to a palette and it normally just means that there is a lot of pigment in the formula, which you can clearly see is true for this one.

Review & Swatches: NEW Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powders

wet n wild highlighters

Wet N Wild has been around for as long as I can remember but they have really stepped up their game lately. I have fallen in love with many of their products. Something they released recently is four new shades of their MegaGlo Highlighting Powders. These are not new but these shades are!

wet n wild highlighters

As soon as I saw them on sale, I immediately ordered them. I mean, for only $4.99 USD each, you can’t beat this quality. I will gladly pay $20+ for a good quality highlighter but when you can get them for that price, you just can’t say no!

inside wet n wild highlighters

These highlighters are creamy to the touch, they blend out amazingly, and they have a variety of colors to them. The four new shades are Royal Calyx (a violet purple), Golden Flower Crown (a true gold), Botanic Dream (a rose gold), and Blossom Glow (a light champagne gold).

From top to bottom: Royal Calyx, Flower Crown, Blossom Glow, Botanic Dream

These highlighters are definitely improved by me! I don’t know how often I’ll wear a purple highlight but I know which one I’ll grab for whenever I do (maybe a Halloween tutorial…?). I can’t wait to use these more!

Review & Swatches | Violet Voss x Nicol Concilio Palette

violet voss x nicol

I know you all have probably heard of Nicol Concilio! She’s an adorable New York native that has a bomb channel on YouTube. I love her videos and her accent gives me life. She recently released her palette that was created with Violet Voss Cosmetics. Now, I had high expectations for this because I have the Violet Voss x Laura Lee palette and that one is amazing.

violet voss x nicol

First off… can we talk about this packaging? I’m obsessed. This holographic goodness just makes me want to stare at it all day. Not to mention that my photos are pretty great, in my opinion. (Yes, I am patting myself on the back for these.) I just love the holographic theme that the beauty world has taken lately. (Also, she totally signed that little flyer that came with it and I kind of want to frame it. ?)

violet voss x nicol palette inside violet voss x nicol

Looking inside the palette, you get 20 shades. They are little bigger than what I would consider “normal” size such as compared to a Mac or Makeup Geek eyeshadow. The palette retails for $45 USD and I’ll just tell you now that I believe it is 100% worth it. I know that doesn’t leave much to tell for the rest of the review but this palette is gorgeous. I’m in love. I will say, if you’re not a warm-toned lover, you won’t much like this. It has tonsss of warm shadows and few sprinkles of color within the duo-chromes (such as Palm Tree) and then that intense blue (Pingy).

Now, to what you guys really want, the swatches!

Row 1 (top to bottom, corresponding from left to right of the palette): NYC, Zo-Zo, Bruh, Pizza, Mars

Row 2: Daisy, Hangry, Blou, Hey Girl, Chawwcolate

Row 3: Glorious, Nicol, Sagittarius, GiGi, Palm Tree

Row 4: L.A., Victoria, Boop-Bop, Pingy, Retrograde

Overall, I rate this palette a 10/10! I love the shades, the pigment is unreal, and they are super creamy. I can’t wait to dig into this more. If you guys want to see any looks with specific shades, let me know in the comments.

Blogmas Day 18 | Mini ColourPop Haul + Swatches

mini colourpop haul and swatches

I got a small order from ColourPop Cosmetics a little while ago. They came back out with some of their previously discontinued eyeshadow shades so I wanted to get my hands on them before/if they weren’t going to be offered anymore. They are all gorgeous every day, wearable colors that I love. I also got four brushes, two shader brushes and two blender brushes, for free because of my eyeshadow purchase. I have not tried out these brushes yet but if you guys would like a full review on their quality with ColourPop shadows and/or other shadows, let me know in the comments below.

From top to bottom: Valley Girl, Cheap Date, Birthday Girl, Game Face, Prickly Pear, Boy Band, Hot Tamale, Moonshine

These are all shimmery shades of some sort and I’m obsessed. If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile, you know that anything shimmery in the eyeshadow department is my absolute favorite. These shadows are just as amazing quality as all other ColourPop Super Shock Shadows have been in the past for me. I definitely think I love Cheap Date and Prickly Pear the most of all of the ones I ordered, which was a huge surprise as I was not expecting those to be my favorites. I give these a 10/10, would buy again!

Blogmas Day 16 | Current Beauty Wishlist

current beauty wishlist

My beauty wishlist is forever growing. Every time a new “hip” product comes out, I start watching YouTube videos from my favorite beauty gurus about that product and looking at swatches of it. It’s probably one of the worst problems I’ve ever had. I’m addicted to makeup. That being said, I’m not a millionaire and there are still plenty of things that I want to buy.

I have concocted a small wishlist of my current wants in the beauty world. These are only but a small portion but they are things that currently spike my interest. I am already in love with what I’ve seen from these products and I can’t wait to finally get my hands on them.

Tarte Shape Tape Concealer

Tarte Tartiest PRO Amazonian Clay Palette

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette

Kylie Cosmetics Limited Edition Holiday Box

Urban Decay All Nighter Liquid Foundation

Of course, the list could go on but these are things that have had my eye recently and I really want to get my hands on them. I highly suggest the brands as I have tried them all, with an exception to Kylie Cosmetics. I am a makeup junkie and, hopefully, I will get the help I need soon.

Blogmas Day 12 | Favorite YouTubers of All Time

YouTube is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time but never had the guts to go through with (I’m planning for this to change soon ?). I seriously admire those who can get in front of a camera and just be themselves. I love watching videos of so many different kinds, from my favorite lifestyle and beauty gurus to gameplay for League of Legends and voice impressions. That being said, I’m going to share with you (as of now) my favorite YouTubers of all time!

#1 Laura Lee

This girl has slowly become my ride-or-die YouTuber. She’s hilarious, quirky, sweet, and GORGEOUS. I love all the different things she offers, from weird beauty hacks to makeup tutorials that slay my existence. She is one of the most down-to-Earth YouTubers I’ve ever come across. She even has shared how she went from being “fake” on camera to learning to finally be herself to her subscribers. And I think that this is what makes her so amazing.

#2 Jaclyn Hill

Everyone loves this girl. She’s easily one of the most well-known beauty gurus of all time. She’s been on YouTube for ages and has become a hit among young teens. She’s done several collaborations with brands–best known for her Becca collaboration in creating the highlighter, Champagne Pop–and she has done exceptionally well from herself. Being able to share her personal life, her backstory, and so much more with her subscribers is something that hits home with me. I always love when I can connect with the people I watch on YouTube. She makes that sooo easy.

#3 Shaaanxo

Another well-known beauty guru, Shan, is definitely in my top favs for the YouTube world. She is such a light-hearted and happy woman. I love the amount of creativity she puts into her channel. Although I love a good smokey eye, she brings life back into makeup. Everything from special effects to get ready with me videos, she’s got you covered. She rocks a bold lip and makes me feel like nothing is too unique for me.

#4 Brizzy Voices

Although she does some beauty videos, one that breaks away from my normal watching needs on YouTube is Brizzy! She is an amazing YouTubers that is well known for her voice and singing impressions. She can do so many different things that it honestly amazes me. I even used one of her impressions as my text tone one time (yes, I’m a dork). On a real note though, she’s so happy and lively all the time and makes YouTube fun again. Plus, we share a HUGE love for Harry Potter.

#5 Madison Miller

Although I did not discover Madison until around a year ago, I’ve quickly fallen in love with her. I remember finding out that she used to be a teacher (which is my career path) and I was so excited. She’s seriously so gorgeous and amazing with her makeup skills. I love that she is so generous to her subscribers, constantly doing giveaways, and always gives us the down low on new products with her famous “Dope or Nope” videos. I can always turn to her for an honest review!

#6 ThatGirlShaeXo

This girl has been a ride or die for me for awhile now. From everything to her weight loss journey to her battles with acne-prone skin, I relate to so many REAL things that she talks about on her channel. Although she is known for being a beauty guru, she adheres to what I consider a large audience with her various types of videos. I adore her beauty videos just as much, though! I love when she does live swatching and I KNOW that Mama needs a little forehead bronzer to make her looks complete!

#7 Laura Leth

Although best known for her “Instagram-esque” videos–where she just showing you everything without voicing it, I love her to death. She does AMAZING makeup looks and uses such a great variety of drugstore and high-end products, in my opinion. Her looks are what drew me in because her makeup always looks flawless. She even has her own eyelash line, if I’m not mistaken, and she says that she wears lashes daily so what would be more appropriate?!

And that’s it for my favorite YouTubers! Although I have many that I watch and adore, these are the ones that keep me coming back again and again (even if I stray away for a little while). I love them all dearly and could only dream of getting to meet each of them some day. And if by some miracle they are reading this, I might pass out. ?

Blogmas Day 10 | First Impressions & Review: OFRA Cosmetics Long Lasting Liquid Lipsticks

first impressions and review ofra cosmetics long lasting liquid lipsticks

I know I am sooo late to this bandwagon but I finally made the plunge into OFRA’s liquid lipsticks. I know, I know… everyone loves these so why has it taken me this long? Well, I always love to get a good amount of whatever I am trying for the first time, especially if I’ve heard stellar reviews on it. Their holiday sales gave me the opportunity to do that! They had 50% off going on which allowed me to get nine lipsticks for a MUCH nicer price point. That being said, I’m going to tell you my first impressions and review over these well-known liquid lipsticks.

While collecting my thoughts of these lipsticks, the conclusion is… I adore them. The color range available on OFRA’s website is INSANE and the formula is unlike any liquid lipstick I’ve tried thus far. It is very creamy and mousse-like but still applies evenly and has amazing pigmentation. I’ve instantly fallen in love with these lipsticks. After wearing one for awhile, I can also tell you that they wear amazingly. They feel comfortable on the lips and are the closest I’ve ever gotten to feeling like I’m wearing no lipstick. I am blown away by the quality of these lipsticks.

I picked up nine different shades, based on colors that I felt like I would wear, and they all were gorgeous and very true to the colors I believed they would be. I also finally got a black liquid lipstick and I’m PUMPED. Below are the swatches of the shades that I purchased (please excuse my sad excuse for swatches).

Below are close-ups of the shades in the same order as listed above.

That’s it for my first impressions and review of the OFRA Cosmetics Long Lasting Liquid Lipsticks! I have to say, I am sad that it took me so long to take the plunge because I have a feeling I will be wearing this A LOT. I’m obsessed with the amazing formula and, close to the Jeffree Star Cosmetics and Kat Von D formulas, it is definitely a favorite.

Have you tried the OFRA liquid lips?
Do you love them? Hate (?) them?
What are your favorite shades?

How-To | Repurpose ColourPop Cosmetics Delivery Boxes

repurposing colourpop cosmetics boxes

One of the best parts of getting ColourPop Cosmetics orders in, other than getting all your beauty goodies, is getting those gorgeous boxes… but then we just… throw them away? NO! Reduce, reuse, recycle, man. You can totally reuse those to make the most adorable storage boxes for your ColourPop products or really anything you want cute organization for. The patterns don’t stay the same but if you order frequently, you can get several of the same types of boxes and theme your organization in your home!

I have found the best method to take this…

and make it look like this!

Minus my huge (this is only a portion) collection of ColourPop goodies. If you’re interested in making use of your delivery boxes, follow the instructions given in this super simple and quick tutorial.

Step #1: Get a ColourPop box that you have lying around your house (you know you keep ’em).

Step #2: Carefully, pull up on either side of the box (while open) while also pushing slightly down on the bottom of the inside of the box until you pop the tab out of the precut hole in the box. Put it out so it is free from the insert hole.

img_0004

Step #3: Repeat Step #2 with the other side. Once you have finished, it should look something like this:
img_0005

Step #4: Turn over the box so you see the white side and start bending all of the pre-bent areas backwards (inwards).
img_0006

Step #5: Cut off the top part (where the lid begins and the side flaps attached to it).

Step #6: Fold forward the flap directly in front of you and pull the opposite sides flap next to it with the opposite side on the outside. This should create the first half of the box. Secure it into place by pulling the flap you previously removed inward and securing it into that same tab slot on the inside of the box.
img_0008img_0009

Step #7: Repeat Step 6 to complete the folding process. The box should then look like this:
img_0010

Now, you could just stop right here! It is a perfectly secure box that would look very swanky as a storage container. However, I am very OCD and want things to look as neat and tidy as possible. So, I’ve added in some extra steps to make it look less DIY and more FABULOUS!

Step #8: Take the lid that you cut off and remove everything but the face that says “ColourPop” on it. This should leave a plain rectangle.
img_0011

Step #9: Once you are finished, insert it into the bottom of the box to make for an extra decorative touch. If you are not using your box for ColourPop, you could always put out some matching cardstock or scrapbook paper to fit inside the bottom without using the ColourPop logo.
img_0012

Step #10: Take the top flap from the lid (the long piece) that you just cut off and cut off the two side parts that previously folded into the box (the small parts). Insert this behind the cardboard on the inside of the box on the back wall of the box to secure it into place and add the pattern to the back.
img_0014

Once you have that done, you are finished! You can also use the extra pieces to add in dividers (as shown in my finished product above) so you can organize the box even more. Here is a photo of the finished product:
